Inspired Innovation

Every decision we make at REDMAGIC has precise and calculated thought behind it. When it came to the AquaCore Cooling System, the design was partly inspired by a demand for a similar liquid-cooled phone case. Our product manager, James Jiang, noted that fans were asking for a liquid-cooled phone case after one had hit the market from a different brand. Mulling over the concept and practicality of the idea, Jiang eventually decided to push the idea to the next level by introducing a liquid-cooled smartphone instead. Thus, the world’s first mass-produced flowing liquid-cooled smartphone was born. So, how does it work?

Inside AquaCore

The AquaCore Cooling System is an intricate and complex structure that houses several cooling components, each working together to enhance heat dissipation, improve performance, and optimize cooling. Backed by the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and our very own RedCore R4 chipset, the 11 Pro has the engine to generate enough power – and heat – for a world-class performance. That means that its cooling system needs to keep up.

To stay cool, the AquaCore dual-track cooling system uses a specialized flowing fluorinated liquid to remove heat. Fluorinated liquids contain fluorine atoms in their chemical structure and are often very stable, resistant to heat and chemicals, and do not conduct electricity. This makes it the ideal coolant for heat-intensive technology, like AI servers or data centers. Within the 11 Pro, a miniaturized piezoelectric ceramic pump and liquid channels with micron-level laser cutting technology are used to ensure the pressure and flow of the liquid. This also maintains ultra-low power consumption, a compact size, and ultra-silent cooling.

For the 11 Pro, we knew that flowing liquid in a gaming smartphone might be a risky move, which is why we also housed it inside a durable and fully sealed system using the industry's first ultra-low-temperature bonding process and a new anti-puncture membrane. 

This allows it to operate at extreme temperatures between -40°C and 70°C with ease - preventing any short-circuiting or freezing. Our liquid cooling system has also passed tens of thousands of drop tests, exceeding industry standards and ensuring real-world durability.

The flowing liquid, which you can see in action on our Nightfreeze and Subzero models, carries the heat away from the CPU and other internal heat-generating components, evenly dispersing heat across the whole device for consistent and powerful cooling. The entire cooling system of the 11 Pro can be divided into 10 dedicated layers for the most efficient and comprehensive thermal management.

In his JerryRigEverything breakdown of the 11 Pro, Zach was immediately impressed by the coolant being visibly pumped around inside the phone,  distributing heat across the phone's back surface.

When placed against an open flame, the active fan exhaust was immediately strong enough to extinguish it. Zach also tried to light the cooling loop on fire to no avail, which he concluded was because the liquid continued to circulate and move the heat away from the flame, just like the system was designed to do. 

When he took the back glass off, he revealed the AquaCore Cooling System, the piezoelectric ceramic micropump, the active fan, and the wireless charging coil, which are all part of a single component that peels off the phone to reveal the squishy alien-like tech tubes that carry the liquid. 

He was further impressed by the tubing structure, noting that the loop was using the air duct and cooling fan as a radiator, much like a gasoline-powered vehicle engine. The one-way check valves inside the liquid, combined with the vibrations, act like a pump to move the liquid around inside the loop. 

For Games Radar+, the 11 Pro is “the king of the castle right now, sporting cutting-edge tech to offer up some of the best benchmark scores seen in a gaming phone to date.” While they noted that the phone got slightly warm when being put through the Wildlife Extreme's Stress Test, the system still maintained an 80% stability score. This proved to them that the AquaCore cooling system was certainly pulling its weight, and that the 11 Pro easily outperforms its predecessor with a far better cooling system to boot.

Now, while watching the bubbles run around the ring might be fun, let’s also take a look at some of the other cooling elements that put in the work to keep the 11 Pro running cool as ice. 

The Industry’s Largest Vapor Chamber 

The 11 Pro AquaCore Cooling System is complemented by a massive 13,116mm² Vapor Chamber, which uses double-sided raised heat conduction for seamless coverage of the internal components, providing 50% better heat dissipation. As the largest of its kind, it effortlessly covers all the way from the camera to the bottom speaker. 

Liquid Metal 3.0

Liquid metal has been a staple of REDMAGIC’s cooling system for the past few generations. Now, with the 11 Pro, we’ve kicked things up a notch with Liquid Metal 3.0. This non-corrosive and upgraded version has improved thermal conductivity for faster and safer heat transfer. It’s also strategically placed right above the vapor chamber to speed up the heat transfer from the CPU.

As usual, the 11 Pro cooling system comes equipped with the fastest fan in the industry: our signature REDMAGIC Turbofan. Spinning at 24,000 RPM, it rapidly accelerates hot air circulation and improves airflow for enhanced cooling. With its large, through-flow duct design, the fan quickly expels heat from the device, while also introducing a new sealing process for IP68 dust and water resistance. With a 1,000 RPM boost over our 10 Pro's 23,000 RPM specs, the Turbofan in the 11 Pro is sure to blow you away when it comes to superior cooling. 

Tech Spurt further noted that while the turbofan is ridiculously powerful, it also remains whisper-quiet, making it ideal for gaming in the middle of the night. He was also pleasantly surprised that the cooling system absolutely worked a treat, stating that even in the most intensive titles like Wuthering Waves on the highest possible graphics settings with either Rise or Diablo mode would give you over 5 hours of gaming on the 11 Pro, and it'll get just slightly warmer around the back.

However, while it might be interesting to look at, the AquaCore Cooling System is a lot more than a pretty face when it comes to performance, stability, and gameplay. Mariyan Slavov for Phone Arena stated that the 11 Pro was one of the coolest phones he had ever tested - both metaphorically and literally. He used the 3DMark's Wildlife Extreme Stress Test, which basically runs 20 instances of the graphically demanding test to rank sustained performance and, in this case, the sophisticated cooling system. Based on the results, not only does the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 excel in this task, but the active cooling system was able to maintain the performance relatively high with a stability score of 85%, which was incredibly impressive. Slavov concluded that the liquid cooling in 11 Pro is not just a gimmick but actually brings real-life advantages to the table.

According to Geeky Gadgets, the AquaCore Cooling System in the 11 Pro ensures consistent performance, while its durable design and immersive display enhance the overall user experience. They maintain in their review that the cooling systems work seamlessly together to prevent overheating, effortlessly pushing the 11 Pro to set a new benchmark, showcasing what a gaming smartphone can achieve.

They also state that this level of thermal management addresses a common challenge for high-performance smartphones, making the 11 Pro a reliable choice for gamers. They further conclude that “these innovations, combined with the powerful Snapdragon processor and high-capacity battery, create a smartphone optimized for sustained performance under heavy workloads, and that this engineering excellence ensures that the device remains dependable even during prolonged gaming or multitasking.”
